VPAP98
Originally released way back in the heady days of long trousers this 1995 Paper classic gets the 03 rerub and polish, a bit like them crap house shows on the telly. With the label closing soon here’s homage to the labels second 12" release.ELTON JOHN Are You Ready For Love 12"
(Southern Fried)
VECB50
At first sight Elton John's lost "classic", Are You Ready For Love isn't an obvious choice for a cool dance label reissue, now is it? For a start John, and his fondness for flowers, isn't the first person who comes to mind when thinking about forgotten musicians in need of a career revival. And the song itself at first barely reveals an unknown, underground soulful side to the star crooner. But then, after four minutes and thirty seconds of soulful pop, the original track changes tack and builds into a spectacular conga-led dancefloor work out. Checking the sleeve notes, this is less surprising. The track was originally recorded in 1977 by O Jays producer Thom Bell at the legendary Philadelphia International Studios - the very birthplace of disco. Armed with this knowledge things become a lot clearer. Elton is not the prime attraction in the show. So here we have it the full-length original 1979 version, with a Freeform Five remix on the flip. My Mum’s so proud, we finally released a record by someone she’s heard of!

H FOUNDATION Tonight (Fred Everything / H Foundation)) 12"
(Soma)
VSOMA133R
San Diego's finest producer/DJ duo H-Foundation deliver Tonight, hallmarked by its lush strings, bassline and the strong female vocals of Krista. King Britt's Mix is one of his finest mid pacers of recent times, bulking up the layers of the original with amazing effect. DJ Dozia ups the BPM's a touch and drives along on its analogue synth lines. Fred Everything strips down and twists the vocal for techier floors. H-Foundation's own Extended Mix takes the original and bends it perfectly for quality floors. The Smoothed Out Mix rides along on the hats and goes very, very deep.
DK7 The Difference 12"
(Output)
VOPR55X
Trevor Jackson's Output label has gone from strength to strength in recent months, and this glorious release is among it's best. The duo have dusted off their 303 machine and welded a scorching acid bassline to a dark taut example of NY-influenced funk, creating an instant dancefloor hit. Martin Landsky & Out Hud mixes. Its acid house all over again J

ROBBIE HARDKISS Everything Is Changing 12"
(Classic)
VCMC26
For Robbie Hardkiss, the San Francisco house don, and third brother of that city's Hardkiss family (the other being Scott and Gavin), that time is now - except his moment of dance floor contemplation is refreshingly free of nostalgia. Instead of yapping out a list of push button club names, such as the Paradise Garage, Warehouse and the Loft, Robbbie simply wants to point out that it's different now and change can be scary, but, hey, that's part of growing up, moving on and, guess what, it can be exciting: "Everything is changing, everything is cool". Boozy and Swan's 'Stripped mix' takes its cue from the current back to basics/ re-birth of acid house camp. But the duo lick much of the competition by calling on a broader range of late Eighties influences, bringing their sound somewhat closer to the hybrid that launched acid house. On the flip Q-Burn strips 'Everything Is Changing' back to its basic four to the floor and gets busy in his characteristically minimalistic way on the bass and drum pad drop. Everything is changing - the same as it ever was.
