(Music For Freaks)
VMFF12023
Those Freaks, Luke Solomon and Justin Harris, have teamed up with none other than Diz Washington (Iz & Diz) on this release, it's his mesmerising vocals you hear... as your clothes go round. This is the first release from the forthcoming Freaks album: The Man Who Lived Underground, and from the from the sounds of this, it's gonna be pretty damn hot! Already being spun by the likes of Pete Tong, Yousef, Mark Farina, Lottie, Doc Martin, Trevor ‘Playgroup’ Jackson and many, many more, Washing Machine looks set to be the Freaks most accessible work to date. On the flip we have a Supa Clean mix by DJ Sneak who creates one hell of a jacked up groove to work the floor like only he can! Stunning - naturally, huge – definitely.

DIY EP #1 12"
(DIY Discs)
VDIY61
DiY - EP #1
is an in house collaborative project between DiY artists Woosh (of Digs & ... fame), Al Royale and Kinky Joe. Alex Croall - aka Al Royale is a member of the Nottingham based Giddy Fruit crew and their house parties after DiY nights are of legend. He has had one EP previously released on DiY Discs as Al Royale - The Giddy Heights EP - that combined his keyboard skills with a love of deep house. Mr Karinde aka Kinky Joe has previously had one release out on DiY and others for Funkknows, Swag.com and Belgian label The Visitor. Woosh & long term DJ partner Digs have been at the centre of the free party / deep house scene for over 10 years now, building up a world wide reputation. Here they all hook up for the flirty, soon to be gay anthem Skirt. On Milk & 2 1/7 the crew invite Andre from Schmoov! to bring a climactic edge with his disco influenced peaky keys. Footsteps & Need U are both heavy atmospheric beauties, late night deep house excursions that this crew are so well known for.

VARIOUS The Distractions EP 12"
(Dadhouse)
VDADH012
Dadhouse present four sexy tracks for a hot summers day from four sexy artists. First we have The Vogado Project’s Balearic houser Mas Fuerte Que el Sol from the super cool Fluid Ounce stable, which was much loved by Brandon Block no less. Next we have the sun drenched chill out vibe of The Man Who Would Be King from Friel, who are currently riding high with Aquabella on Naked Music. A future chill out classic? Over on the flip side we have Open Source’s gorgeous mid-tempo house moment that is Get A Little Response, a groove perfect for those easygoing sunny afternoons. Finally the EP finishes with a new killer version of Original Soulboy’s female vocal classic I Can’t Feel It, which rounds off a very worthy EP!

TONY THOMAS Love Jam EP 12"
(Honchos Music)
VHONM020
House aficionados should need no introduction to the production skills of Tony Thomas. Over the past 10 years, Tony has proved his worth with a slew of slammin’ cuts on labels such as the End, Soma, Eukatech, Purpose, Honchos, Red Frame and many others. He has remixed tracks for labels like Tango, Code and Sheer whilst his recent mix of Slam’s Alien Radio on the Soma label is one of this year’s most talked about records. His recent Hypnotic EP on Honchos was very well received by the record buying public and has been in the boxes of Mr. C, Layo, Gordon Kaye, Mazi Namvar, Greg Vickers, Jon Marsh and many others. Honchos Music is going from strength to strength in the second half of 2002 with the massive Summer anthem Piha by Ian Pooley and Magik J and the thunderous digi-tech funk of A J Scent’s I Love Digital both forthcoming on the Bristol imprint.

Fresh for Summer 2002, Felix Da Housecat's Silver Screen - Shower Scene makes a welcome return. The album is about to be re-released with additional tracks and new artwork. MANHEAD Doop / What 12"
(Relish Records)
VRR004
This is the fourth release from the Swiss based label Relish Records and features Manhead with two killer new tracks. On this new release we are treated firstly to Doop, a real floor burner of a track with a dominant and highly infectious melodic hook line which is typical for the electronic Balearic 80’s influenced Manhead tunes and easily equals anything that Metro Area have produced. Over on the B-side What? is a true and danceable disco/rock track with a nice and straightforward guitar lick that is reminiscent of The Mexican. Stunning!!!

ROB DIOR Rock To The Beat 12"
(Hysteria Underground)
VHUND004T
The super impressive first showing of new Hysteria artist Rob Dior is not just a cover but also a tribute to Kevin Saunderson’s classic Rock To The Beat! Rock To The Beat was originally a 1988 underground phenomenon first recorded by Kevin Saunderson and released on his Detroit based KMS Records, eventually making it to the FFrr stable of classics from that period too. Rob Dior, co-producing with Eric Kupper, delivers a much-needed update of the original while holding on to the exact vibe that made it seminal in Rob's discovery of house music. It remains hard, dark and loud as hell!!! Currently being championed on test pressing by Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez, and David Morales. This is a limited edition 1-sided release! Fans of the original will not be disappointed.

MR FITZPOP Presents This Charming Slim Shady 7"
(Bstard Recordings)
VSH016
Slim Shady meets The Smiths & The 900 Number on this very popular little moody number. Comes in a fantastic mock up of the original This Charming Man sleeve. Well cool!

PHIL ASHER Music For Love Life 1 12"
(Nepenta)
VNPT36
One of the unsung heroes of British House, Phil Asher (Restless Soul / Nathan Haines) produces this first limited release of three in the Music Love Life series. One of Britain's most prominent house DJ's and producers, one could call him the UK’s answer to Masters at Work. But while most of his UK peers rely on the sometimes cheesy anthemic side of things, he remains driven by a true passion for the music, one that shows on each of his lush and classy reinterpretations of the genre. Renowned for his production work, West London brokenbeat star Phil has put together a cutting edge mix of house. Perfection on a disc. Cheers.

PHAT COMPANY Plytron / Love Life 7"
(ICON Series)
VTMR001
This is the first in a series of 7inch singles that will be limited to 500 copies on different coloured vinyls and each will have there own icon. This one being Sid Vicious and on blue vinyl. The music is strictly electronic from electro clash to full on dirty German electro. The first track on this release is a track called Playtron, which has a 2 bar vocal sample from Ladytron's Playgirl. The vocal on the original track was fantastic but felt the rest of the track didn't cut it so decided to do their own. The second track is called Love Life, a track started a couple of years a go but never finished. The female vocal on the track is the voice of a well-known celeb... you'll have to guess which one though. Playtron has been heavily played by Miss Kitten on her recent UK and Berlin tour. Also being played at Electric Stew, Ministry of Brown and by The Droyds on their various DJ gigs.

K KLASS Talk To Me (Kid Stuff Remix) 12"
(SUSU)
V12SUSU005TX
In demand Kid Stuff, a.k.a. Mark Wilkinson (Problem Kids) & crew, remix of this vocal cut that is getting props from all the big boys... this is LARGE! Number 2 in the UK Club Charts last week blah blah blah.

MAJIK J Afro Majik 12"
(Blaktrax)
VBLK003
Afro Majik is a brilliant piece of dance floor afro-house with tribal drums, jungle deep bass and a nagging sax line which has been doing the rounds with Doc Martin, DJ Onionz and Fred Everything with plays on Radio 1 and Crash FM. So listen and obey your feet, which are now burning holes in the dancefloor! Dick Johnson, the prodigal son and one of the founding members of Shaboom returns to the fold with this afrobeat stormer that has already been championed by the King of Scouse House, Yousef on his Radio 1 show. Dick was one of house music’s overlooked pioneers with a residency at The Hacienda and Blackpool’s legendary Oz alongside Sasha at the dawn of acid house. He has gone on to play all over the world including Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Hong Kong and Malaysia, and first visited New Zealand way back in 1991. He has been back to NZ every year since and has been a major influence on the music scene over here. In fact, he liked New Zealand so much that he moved to Auckland last year and brought a lawn mowing business. Dick has come into his own as a producer in the last couple of years under his Magik J moniker and as part of Del 5 (Paperecordings / Bosh) and part of Troffman with Soane and alongside Ben Davis. He has had releases on Twisted, Paperecordings and Shaboom with tracks licensed to compilations by Soane, Danny Howells, Steve Lawler and Jon Marsh. Dick has set his studio up in New Zealand and has been producing music for the country’s national television network and remixing for Sony Music and Warner Brothers. He has also collaborated with Ian Pooley, (Piha) the results of which can be heard forthcoming on NRK and early signs are massive. Also coming up he has done the definitive remix of future summer anthem Misty Blue by One Million Sons on FFRR, commissioned by Pete Tong himself and of course plenty to come on Shaboom and Blaktrax. Phew, all this and he still manages to find the odd spare moment to get out on the harbour in his boat.

ALASKA SOUL So Wonderful 12"
(Fire Recordings)
VERIF020
Cheekily passing most people by when it was first released on London based label Hiptonic, the Circulation mix of Alaska Soul returns again on Fire Recordings. Warm, pad filled, tech house with just a hint of a killer vocal, perfect for a cricket filled Indian summer evening, inside or out. Whilst on the flip side, Australia's top order batsmen, Infusion prepare to see off all comers to the boundary, with their usual fine straight bat electronic assault play. It’s clearly quite essential, but is it cricket...?

CHRIS LUM Feelin High 12"
(Hooj Tunes)
VHOOJ123
CHRIS LUM Feelin High #2 12"
VHOOJ123R
Chris Lum: producer, world-renowned DJ and programmer of some of the phattest sounds you’re likely to hear on a record provides a couple of solid P-funk tweaked house cuts here. Heading up the A side of disc one, Feelin’ High (Thinking Of You) sets the agenda with chunky drum sounds and a cool drifting vocal, while over on the B, You’re Mine brings low-riding, funk-fuelled dirty grooves and dirtier words together perfectly in a blaze of sleaze. Disc two sees Nova Scotia (AKA Bryan Robson/ Solaris Heights) provide a funked-up remix of Feelin’ High that fans of Morgan Geist will feel, while a slightly tamer vocal version of You’re Mine sits on the B as well as the rather useful acappella of Feelin’ High.

COLOURSOUND Fly With Me 12"
(City Rockers)
VROCKERS20
City Rockers have a knack of doing this! Coloursound's Fly With Me has electrified dancefloors since its first airing at the hands of Tom Middleton in Miami and now this sing-a-long dancefloor delight looks set to take the summer by storm. Magic. The remix of Fly With Me on this 12" are from Ashley Beedle. The result is seismic.

MIGUEL MIGS Dub Plate Sessions 10"
(NRK Sound Division)
VNRK079
Keeping in tradition with the reggae labels of old, Dubplate Sessions is only available on an extremely limited edition 10" dubplate. Bump Selecta is split into two mixes; the Dub Selecta Mix and the Migs Rub A Dub Mix. The first mix features the low slung bassline & crisp percussion that Migs aficionados will relish whilst the Rub A Dub mix is a more stripped down tribal affair with a deep Rhodes chord and echoed effects. Dubplate Sessions marks a return to the dub roots that Miguel carved out at the start of his career. At the tender age of 18, as songwriter and lead guitarist for Zion Soundz, Miguel toured globally with known reggae outfits Burning Spear and Culture. Tired of band related differences, in 1997 Miguel began to experiment with electronic music, combining the best of both the digital and electronic worlds with live instrumentation and full song writing.

PLAY MO BITCH Preach To Party 12"
(Jam Block)
VJB01
Finally it’s time. After two years of Jam Block parties and events around the world, Tutto Matto (Tummy Touch Records - London) and Bagatelle (Follow Me Records - Paris) have come together to create Jam Block Records. The label encapsulates all the best of the Jam Block parties: fresh, fun, and funky jams, but also a different way for the collective to express themselves outside of their main projects. Play Mo’bitch, the first signing of the label, delivers a gospel party anthem that is preaching you to party!!! On the flip, Organic Audio offers a stomping electro remix for the darker dancefloors without losing one ounce of the funk.

4:20 The Funky Track 12"
(Classic Music Company)
VCMC38
4:20 aka Mustafa is a hot new producer from California. His recent releases as Mustafa on Subliminal & Yellorange have been heavily played on both sides of the Atlantic and The Funky Track looks set to build on this head of steam. This record is already being supported by some of house music’s most influential DJs including Derrick Carter, Doc Martin, Joshua, Mark Farina & Luke Solomon. As well as the superb, fat, funky-ass original we have a No Ears Vocal Mix by Rob Mello. His mix gives the original a more electronic feel, which takes the track in a totally new direction.

DJ REN D Voodoo Sensation 12"
(Maelstrom)
VMAELT020
From the Timo Mass/ Ian Wilkie school of sounds. Tough tech-prog.

HARDKANDY Suddenly Calm 12"
(Catskills Records)
VRID023
Hardkandy - Simon Little and Tim Bidwell – met two years ago shortly after they migrated South to sunny Brighton. Individually they had been doing production work with the Space Raiders and only met by chance at work. Simon was making ends meet with DJing, production work and a regular gig as organ player at Brighton Ice Rink where Tim was moonlighting as a hot dog seller. They started making music together when they discovered their mutual love for Barry White, Pink Floyd, Al Green and The Meters amongst others. They set about trying to recreate the sound and style of old classics with modern sensibilities.

JAY HOWARD Step Inside 2x12"
(Black no Sugar)
VCWL011
A doublepack DJ tool covering minimal tech house to more defined grooves. This is the first double pack release for Black No Sugar and the debut release for Jason Howard, an Oxford local with an ear for the groove old and new. He recently received a Muzik single of the month on Glasgow based Cordless Music. Black No Sugar is the sister label to Cross Section originally set up for the purpose of releasing more sample based productions and fun tracks, and this is no exception. A definite value for money EP.

SENOR COCONUT Tour De France 12"
(New State Recordings)
VNSER001
Forget the LIMITED EDITION 7" which contains original mixes of Tour De France & Showroom Dummies cause it’s the 12" that contains Good Groove’s 501 Vocal MixGood Groove is Klaus, DJ & owner of top German techno label Frisbee Records. On the flip, you’ll find the Dummies remix, which comes courtesy of the ever wonderful Markus Nikolai. So no, 7", just the 12".

MATEO & MATOS Album Sampler 12"
(Glasgow Underground)
VGU101 $13.95
Mateo & Matos return to Glasgow Underground with their fourth album Enter Our World. This single provides a limited edition taster of the selection of Saturday night house grooves to come. Three years after the 10,000 plus selling The Many Shades of… (over 10% of the worlds sales coming from little ol NZ) and after two successful mix compilations (Inspirations and Classic Inspirations. Feelin’ Sexy kicks off the twelve with a typically sultry New York vocal cut. Skipping beats, bumping bass and that trademark M & M swing make up the backing while Jeanine Lapardo’s provides a sensual overlay to the groove. Think about Jon Cutler or Ben Watt’s style of Big Apple vocals and this classy vocal will fit in very well indeed. Ago Jinde pushes things a little deeper with a soaring Spiritual Life styled instrumental. Booming bottom end and funky guitar licks supply the booty shake while a cocktail of funky
Rhodes, swirling Hammonds and honky sax deliver the real deal. Enter our World arrives early 2003.

DANIEL IBBOTSON I Stumble 12"
(Fenetik Music)
VTIK021
3 track 12" from Glasgow’s Daniel Ibbotson who has previously recorded for Clear recordings, Glasgow Underground, and has also released two EP’s on Fenetik. Stumble which appeared on Daniel’s last 12", but here has been masterfully remixed by one of the most respected and hardworking producers around, John Tejada. John has released a quite staggering 43 12" s to date on A13, Seventh City, R&S, Plug Research and Playhouse amongst others, but the bulk have been released on his own Palette imprint. He has also released five albums. Upscale Adult sees Daniel in familiar territory with an infectious R&B influenced, mid tempo, electronic workout that bumps along very nicely, Kind of like Plaid meets The Neptunes. Computer Love is a far more dark, melancholic affair that illustrates Daniel’s talents as a writer of more subtle, but also more complex arrangements. This track has a slightly retro electronic feel reminiscent of the work of Depeche Mode from the late 80’s.

HARLEM ZIP CODE TRIAD EP 12"
(Paperecordings)
VPAP086 $13.95
Third single from Harlem Zip Code for Paperecordings. Their previous single Vibrations EP (VPAP072) which included the huge I Feel Music gained massive support from the likes of Luke Solomon, Stuart Patterson, Mr Scruff, Jon Marsh as well as a legion of NZ DJs. This single is kung fu tech funk, a genre that hasn’t been created yet, but amongst all this synth core and whatever else, no one’s really going to know the difference. The A side is gritty metallic straight up house with ninja samples (as a bonus) which is very much a big room club sound and the B side has a Sneak-esque number on it and a down tempo track. Merlin from Harlem Zip Code is also a member of Reset with Elliot Eastwick and Miles Hollway.

ORIGINAL I Luv You Baby 12"
(Skytrain)
VSKYTRX006
Subtitled classic gets a makeover! This massive Ibiza & 90’s dance classic gets a timely re-release via Skyline. Now we can all move forward with our lives. Cheers.

FROGSNATCHER Dream Rabbit 12"
(Afro Art)
VARF020
Afro Art returns with a chunky, funky production from Frogsnatcher, a.k.a. Zak Frost and Lorenzo Giannecchini from The Deep Blue Organisation, featuring vocals from Mr. Clive Natural. On this release Afro house meets dub with a rather groovy, squelchy bass-line that has been rocking Afro Art dance floors for sometime now. This is coupled with a deep and dubby remix from Paul Murphy to round off the package. There has been really great feedback and reactions from the likes of Kid Loco, Mr Scruff, Daddy G of Massive Attack, Hakan Lidbo, Different Drummer and Tutto Matto, etc.

KARU The Feel 12"
(Dadhouse)
VDADH011
Producer Quentin Allen hails from Cleveland, Ohio and his debut release on Dadhouse highlights the unique Karu sound that sits somewhere between house, techno, jazz and electronica. The Feel fuses chopped beats with a 1970’s jazz-fusion sensibility to create a powerful contemporary record that sounds like nothing else out there at the moment. On the AA side Nu Life highlights the versatility of this artist and is coupled with a swinging house dub from Real Deep Productions. This record is really, really LOUD! So check it out.

JAZZUS JUICE Direction 4 Me 12"
(DIY Discs)
VDIY60
During the past couple of years, those wonderful Norwegians added their beautiful flavour of innovative house to the world dance music scene. Today the answer comes from the other side of the Baltic Sea, with the unique Lithuanian blend of jazzy percussive deep house from the first and only Lithuanian house music producers Jazzus Juice. Haling from the spiritual town of Kaunas (also known as ‘Gerumo Miestas’ or ‘City of Goodness’), DJ’s Pavel Bachanov and Diesel have worked for several years in the burgeoning club scene until they formed Jazzus Juice in Spring 2000. In two years they won all the hearts of Lithuanian clubbers because of their passion during live performances. Today they are gaining international recognition and popularity for their unique recordings and vibrant performances, at once catching the attention of DJ Woosh (of the well known DiY duo Digs & Woosh) during his visits to Lithuania. On this debut EP for DiY Discs you hear the electronic throbbing of classical house rhythms, funky basslines and turntablist stylings, layered with the organic sounds of light latin percussion swings while saxophones wail, topped with fluttering flutes to form the distinct sound of JAZZUS JUICE... jazzy house has never sounded so sincere!

NEON HEIGHTS Gentlemen Of Funk 12"
(Ideal)
VIDEAL200232
The duo of Cal Gibson & Simon White, a.k.a. Neon Heights, have been consistently releasing great records over the last few years for the likes of Glasgow Underground, Afro Art, Silver Network, DiY and many more. Here they have pulled their classic Gentlemen of Funk from the vaults and have reworked it in two very different ways by two very different producers. Firstly San Francisco’s Joshua gives us his future Nu-Funk version, a late night trip into the world of sci-fi house where his trademark skipping beats and dub effects meet soaring strings to wonderful effect. Secondly Stargazer deliver a true house / funk work out. Imagine the Fatback Band jamming over an Ashley Beedle set at a Southport Weekender. Gentlemen of funk indeed!!!

G FLAME Back 2 Da House EP 12"
(Alpha Recordings)
VALPHA066
G Flame is the alter ego of Cisco Ferreira / The Advent and returns on his very own Alpha Recordings label following the recent Fall Out EP on Bush, House Traitors on Moody Recordings and his remixes for Angel Alanis. Kevin Saunderson has also licensed a bunch of his tracks for his new mix CD on TDJ. Back 2 Da House does exactly what it says on the can and B2DH is straight up, no nonsense house for the dancefloor, no messing! Flame Da Phoenix is more reminiscent of Cisco’s Advent work, leaning more towards the Techno side of things for some super tough dancefloor action. Finally CMACKX rounds things up with a peak hour tech-house moment. Strong stuff!

MA YORKINS Love Rain 12"
(X Traxx Record)
VX001
Ma Yorkins hails from the sunny climates of Parma Mallorca, this is their first release, having already gained a positive response from Groove Armada, Nuphonic and The Idjut Boys, as well as being a dance floor fave at Parma's best club Garito. In a deep NY Garage style, Love Rain is a late night floor filler. With an excellent female soulful vocal, killer hook and Basement Boys style bassline, Love Rain is funky vocal house music for the dancefloor. On the flip is the Love Dub.

LISA SHAW Telling On Me 12"
(Sirkus)
VSIRK032
Lisa Shaw is the New York based singer who first came to prominence with If I Could, her debut solo release for Sirkus in 1998. With remixes from Restless Soul this laid-back soul gem bewitched the house and soul crowds alike. Telling On Me was recorded and remixed the same year but despite being a favourite with likes of Jazzanova and Dimitri from Paris, was never given a full release. Once again Restless Souls step in and take on the remix duties turning in two versions at two very different tempos. On the A side we give you the Peak Time Version that is as lush, soulful and funky as house music gets. Add into the mix some jazzy keys, tight beats and vocal cuts this is pure dance floor Viagra. On the flip the tempo drops but the temperature rises as Restless Souls deliver a slow and low gem, in a street-soul style. Awesome!

LOFT 55 1-800 Gigilo 12"
(Modern Electronic Soul)
VMES001
MES Records, meaning Modern Electronic Soul, launch with the dance floor killer that is 1-800 Gigilo. The A side is the mellower of the two mixes with rough yet intricate drum programming set off superbly against luscious pads, and carried by rolling electronic melodies. The Psychopath Mix on the AA side is tough and funky-as-hell. Sultry vocals float with attitude over hypnotic beats and bleats... this track rocks! Already very popular on the US West Cost and being championed by Fabric’s Terry Francis and LTJ Bukem in his house sets.

PLAYGROUP Number One (So Solid Remixes) 12"
(Playgroup)

A MAN CALLED ADAM People Rule 12"
(Other Records)
VOTHER236
A Man Called Adam don't need much introduction and this exclusive release is a tiny taster of the tons of new material you can expect to hear from them in the very near future. With a brilliant dubbed out remix from Radio 1's Chris Coco and stripped back beach mixes for the perfect sunset this release is limited to 500 copies world-wide. 20 copies are currently circulating in Ibiza and it seems from the sunset residents reactions that this is everything a chill out DJ could want.

MARK RAE Lobster / Make No Mistake 12"
(Grand Central Records)
VGC156
Mark Rae's first single from his solo album, Lobster came about in one demonic sitting where all of the samples wanted to talk to each other without the need for an interpreter. The flip side, Make No Mistake is a mixture of Rick James, Sheffield bleep bass line house and hip hop. Damn fine then.

MARK RAE Rae Road 2x12"
(Grand Central Records)
VGCLP115
"It’s a hip hop funk monster. With a party like atmosphere running throughout…" Penthouse Magazine
Being boss of your own record label has its advantages, but with power comes responsibility. This usually means that, inevitably, something comes at a premium; in this case spare time to pursue ones’ own creative interest. It’s taken him a while, but Grand Central leader Mark Rae has finally found a minute or two in which to record and dip his toes in the waters of solo expression. Rae’s road is a lovably ramshackle affair of tried-and-tested Grand Central funk with the master’s own touch, even some extreme crotch grabbing thrown in for good measure. Perhaps one of the label’s most eagerly awaited and oft-postponed releases, Mark’s own baby takes the distinctive Grand Central old skool ethos down a fair few new alleyways.
