STAX The Jazzbug EP 12"
(Classic Music Company)
VCMC37
This latest member of the Classic family, Stax aka Marquel Davis, was born and raised in Chicago. Inspired by disco of the early 70’s Stax started his craft at just 12 years old. His debut single came aged 15 in 1990 with the first of many releases on Lowtone Recordings. In recent years Marquel has recorded and remixed under a whole plethora of pseudonyms for labels like Rush Hour, Nite:Life Collective & Roots as well as DJing at various spots in Chicago and the Ministry in London. The Jazzbug EP is his first release for Classic and it showcases the finest elements of soulful, Latin and disco house music. Jazzbug is a low-slung burner that has all the makings of a Chicago house classic. Driven by a superb melodic piano loop and gentle rattling percussion this track is light on the ears but heavy in the funk. The DJR Remix takes all the main elements of the original but re-edits them to make a brand new groove. On the flip STR8 Nasty goes for the 4am deep and tripped out vibe - perfect for darkened rooms! Finally Stax goes back to what he knows best, creating a jacked up Chicago dancefloor groove in Carnival Jazz. Any good then? Wot do you think….
SIOBHAN FAHEY Bitter Pill 12"
(God Made Me Hardcore)
VGMMH2303
What do you do when you’ve won an Ivor Novello Award, had more than 40 hit singles including number ones on both sides of the Atlantic, and sold 1.6 million copies of your last album? If you are Shakespear’s Sister / Bananarama chanteuse Siobhan Fahey, you release a classic slice of electro-pop called Bitter Pill. Described by Dazed and Confused as "the new Lazy" (which I am not sure if we agree with, it is way cool though!), the single is Siobhan’s first for leading UK electronic label God Made Me Hardcore and is mixed by label bosses Richard Norris (ex-The Grid) and Andy Chatterley, aka The Droyds. Watch out for the new album due March 2003, a deep blend of Velvets, Supremes and Bolan influenced pop genius, with the odd dance anthem thrown in.
LUKE HOWARD Hi Life / Lo Life 12"
(Afro Art)
VAFR021
Luke Howard, the brains behind Cottage Alert’s Lost Love (currently changing hands for big bucks), Dance Freak and The Prayer gets on a West African tip for this latest offering on Afro Art. A catchy life affirming African guitar riff rides over a percussive door battering rhythm that drives Hi Life for that carnival vibe while the flip side gets low down and dirty to the steamier side of things with Lo Life. Luke’s first release under his own name is sure to make a few waves...
PEEJ Do It EP 12"
(DIY Discs)
VDIY62
Inspired by his regular attendance of DiY / Floppy Disco events at the Bomb in Nottingham, Peej started making house music. Do It is the first full track he's ever made and is, as with everything else he's done since, heavily influenced by the music played at Floppy Disco. The main version of Do It rides a deep grooving bassline, which is complimented by a plethora of funky percussion, guitar and vocal samples to create the sound that is so typical of DiY. The jazz mix does exactly what it says, giving the track a much lighter, chilled vibe. Flip the record over and you have the other side, I Never, another deep groover to cruise along to which is then reworked in house by the DiY boys themselves, toughening up the beats and bass... it’s late night party time. Another quality release!
CHRISTIAN CLARK Expressions In Time 12"
(Hysteria Underground)
VHUND005T
There is a disturbance in the hot winds of south Florida... a storm named Clark! During the 2002 WMC in Miami the Hysteria boys happened upon a demo CD, about the only good one from 50, and the rest is history. Here it is, the first single from artist Christian Clark, a man who has never had a label release before, a man who works some black magic in the studio that both pleases and scares us at the same time, and Expressions In Time is just the beginning of Christian Clark’s production career. Expressions In Time encompasses two big tracks of dark progressive floor workers entitled Epicenter and Momentum that lay the foundation of the Clark sound. They are mean and modern, finding favor with the progressive jocks like Satoshi Tomiie.
A J SCENT I Love Digital 12"
(Honchos Music)
VHONM015
a-J-Scent is back on Honchos Music, this time with the funked up electronic groover that is I Love Digital. This record has been doing the damage on white label for ages and is now ready for a full release over two discs. This monster head banger hits the mark from the start with a driving live kick drum that effortlessly merges into a digitally-twisted electronic groove. An uncompromising fat bassline, rolls and grooves with the melodies whilst a crazy vocal sample toasts away and wraps up a stonker of a track. This one's only for the most depraved of dance-floors, think Daft Punk meets City Rockers on Ketamine and you'd be nearly there! Limited to 1500 world wide!

(Honchos Music)
VHONM015R
A new edit from Rob Mello (Classic/Music For Freaks) and an unreleased bonus cut from A-J-scent. Limited to 1500 world wide!
LOUIS DIGITAL The Crack UP 12"
(Footwork)
VFW03
The Crack-Up EP is Footwork supremo and recent Warp signing Louis Digital's solo follow up to the Change Position EP (FW01), which caused DJs, producers and labels as diverse as Andy Weatherall, Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, DJ Sneak, Luke Solomon, Diz, us here and Warp to take notice of this exciting new label. Across 4 tracks, The Crack-Up EP integrates an innovative blend of house, techno and r&b presenting a set of state-of-the-art club tracks. Escalade kicks off the EP with a sweet rolling hook, riding a deep house groove. I'm Good 4 You is an infectious, up front house track laced with funky edits that are Louis Digital's trademark. Flip the 12 over and you get Sensory-Motor a hi-tech funk crossover of r&b, techno and house. Weekend completes the set with a sensual and hypnotic 4am groove. The result is an EP that is sure to become a mainstay in any forward thinking house DJ's crate. Don't sleep on this! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
STARGAZER An Uncertain Trumpet 12"
(Ideal)
VIDEAL20024
Stargazer is the production team of Christian Davies and Dino Christophilopoulos who have been working together for some years now. They have previously released Deeper, Feel For You and Close as singles for Ideal and Night Drive and the Intergalactic Buffer EP for DiY Discs. They have also remixed Neon Heights’ Gentlemen of Funk and Midnight Star’s Midas Touch. Christian was also responsible for the nu-jazz classic Diary of a Lost Girl on Giant 45. Electrica Sambaca is a lovely piece of light modern electronic samba that should have all of the jazz boys watering at the mouth. A piece of mood music rather than a dancefloor moment and there are no samples involved here, everything has been played and programmed. An Uncertain Trumpet meanwhile is a stunning piece of hi tech jazz with soaring strings and percussion that create a carnival on the moon vibe. Nice!
CLYDE BUILT PROJECT Crazy House 12"
(Deep Freeze Recordings)
VDF004
Matthew Drummond (Papa Washington Trio) and Barry Reeves a.k.a. Clyde Built Project are back with two more rockin’ house tracks for Deep Freeze. Crazy House is a slab of peak time funky house madness with its tough-edged beats and infectious percussion setting the stage for one of the filthiest basslines of the year! Weird dubbed-out vocals, reversed sounds and brass stabs turn up the heat to boiling point. On the flip ‘Big Dipper’ is a West Coast style rollin’ journey. This laid-back summer house groove has a hazy quality but leaves plenty of space for the percussionist to work up a sweat!!!
DEEP C & RANDALL JONES THE DARKNESS 12"
(Blaktrax)
VBLK004
Two of America’s rising stars are back on Blaktrax following their awesome mix of Phillip Charles’ Elektrik Dreamers with an EP that is right on the money for 2002. Deep C cut his teeth in Philadelphia with Chris Brann as part of the Wamdue Kids who built up a reputation as producers of brilliant deep house slow burners with releases on legendary labels like Strictly Rhythm and Tribal Records. All their work culminated in the global top ten hit King of your Castle that sound tracked the summer of 1999. Deep C has crept out from under Chris’ shadow and has been playing his future blend of tech-house at clubs all over the world including John Digweed’s Bedrock and a residency at London’s best club, Fabric. Recently he has had releases on hot labels of the moment Siesta and Low Pressings. Randall Jones is both an accomplished engineer and DJ who has played regularly at Twilo, the Tunnel and Vinyl in New York as well as Stereo in Montreal and The End in the UK, who’s label he also has a forthcoming release on. Together, they are both members of Philadelphia’s Tigerhook collective and scored a big favourite last year with Tropical Feedback on Blakhook Records. The Darkness treads the same slightly progressive tech-house territory they are renowned for, using just a few elements to great effect. They include tight beats, boot shaking bass, a scary effected vocal and a synth stab that should see Danny Tenaglia wetting himself (now theres a mental image for your day). The track has enough vibe and atmosphere to satisfy a Grateful Dead concert and will be a favourite with fans like Jon Marsh and John Digweed. Also included is a mix from Shaboom lynchpin and Yousef / Lottie favourite Blakkat, fresh from being the hottest producer of the moment from his critically acclaimed releases on Siesta, who loops the vocal and jacks things up whilst retaining the track’s dark heart, plus a child scaring bonus accapella and bonus beats.
RJ PROJECT WHAT COLOUR IS LOVE 12"
(HOOJ TUNES)
VHOOJ124
The last time Hooj man Red Jerry released a solo single (Redsun – ‘This Love’ 1996), he spent the next two years (and a shed load of dosh he didn't have) sorting out the legal grief it caused. What Color... is in fact a cover version of the Terry Callier 70's soul classic of the same name and comes in four mixes - three of them by Jerry himself. The Original Mix lays the whole song, beautifully sung by Randolph Matthews, over a drifty, atmospheric backing all underpinned by shuffling beats and a slinky bassline. On this disc we find the Original mix and the somewhat randomly-titled Monkeyhouse Mix which loops up and spaces out bits of the vocal, throws in a rumbling funk bassline and finishes it all off with some user friendly bleeps to boot.
RJ PROJECT WHAT COLOUR IS LOVE (2) 12"
(HOOJ TUNES)
VHOOJ124R
The Original Dub replaces the vocal with a bit of Stephen Hawking-style chatter and adds flecks of piano and ethno chanting to the proceedings and the only outside forces involved in this mission are the magnificent Freddy and Herman, on leave from City Rockers Balearic wing, who've chilled proceedings right out with a classy, organic funkathon that we love dearly.
DJ CHUS PRES That Feeling 12"
(Defected)
VDFTD005R
That Feeling is based around cool tribal rythms using killer guitar riffs, soaring strings and the funkiest of sax breaks. Circulation keep the track in all of the top DJ’s boxes with two different mixes that both utilise their trademark deep groove. Also comes with the Circus Night Boncho mix and the accapella.
J MAJIK 24 Hours 12"
(Defected)
VDEFMAJIK1
Not to be confused with Majik J, this tunes ripping up underground dance floors across the globe, this Loleatta Holloway sampling disco cut up is one of the most sought after records on the Drum 'n' Bass scene. Massive on plate for a while now,24hrs has featured heavily on Drum n Bass Arena and is finally available on this vinyl only ltd release.
TEA DANCERS Cosmic Dance 12"
(Freerange Records)
VFR026
Jamie 'Jimpster' Odell & the bass player from The Bays, Nick Cohen, deliver a nice slice of Freerange deep jazz / house dancefloor action. Why Tea Dancers? Well, they drink tea and dance around whilst making their tracks, so they figured that was a good enough reason. Following the duo’s last EP for Freerange this little beauty looks set to become a fixture in some of the deeper house boxes out there. Already creating a buzz on the west coast at a recent Naked Music party in San Francisco, Cosmic Dance really is tripped-out deep funky house music at it’s best. Proving these boys have more than one trick, the flip side includes From Within. A sublime piece of jazzy electronica with fat, rolling drums and a highly infectious chord progression. To round things off they’ve included a percappella mix of Cosmic Dance with plenty of twisted vox and spacey FX to keep the more experimental DJ’s busy. Just add drums!
ROCKETMANN Rocketmann 12"
(PIAS)
VPIAS080P
A limited 4 track vinyl accompaniment to the Rocketmann! CD only album, produced by Felix Da Housecat.
JEHST Return Of The Drifter 12"
(Lowlife)
VLOW18
Cementing his reputation with singles like Staircase to Stage (featuring J-Zone) and Alcoholic Author (on his own YNR imprint), Jehst is now pawing through beats to produce a full-length ripper. The a-side sees Jehst on a technicolour rant: introspective lyrics blend with that acute sense of observation that connects so well with heads; the piano flourishes levitate over a banging beat made strictly for the head-nod factor. On the b-side we are introduced to Hip Hop’s freshest northerner Asaviour (straight outta Huddersfield), the 2 MCs bounce back and forth in the lightest of moods…Asaviour "sat on a doorstep with a Stella just remembering…" while Jehst is "Housebound: man I’m even sat on the couch now, watching Countdown…" if this bouncy, jazzy little number doesn’t get you moving then you’re probably as stoned as them…
EDWIN LALIQ Clean / Ride 7"
(High Society)
VHS&IN003
Simple frantic guitar strumming over some Mo Tucker style drumming while a mad man rants over the top 'it's clean and safe to use'. Help on production from Nick Boxsaga. Will appeal to fans of Flesh & Billy Childish.
THE WHITE SPORT Scag Lover 7"
(High Society)
VHS7IN0023
Living up to the title, this is a disorientating piece of electonic indie music. Highly entertaining, sometimes ridiculous and could become a classic in certain circles.
COSMETIQUE Straight To Video 7"
(PPQ Records)
VPPQ7IN007
Folky indie electronica from the girl / boy duo that is Cosmetique. Straight to Video is a nice little vocal ditty that rides on a Glitter beat.
ROCKET People 12"
(NRK Sound Divison)
VNRK072
Produced by DJ Garth and Eric James, Jenö’s Stormy Weather Mix has been hailed as a landmark deep house track that helped shape the whole West Coast house movement. A driving deep melody breaks down into a twisted acid bassline and vocal sample. Rob Mello turns in a body poppin’ jack house re-work that will fit snugly in the record collections of those currently into the new wave of European electronic house sounds.
NOEL NANTON Your Love 12"
(Honchos Music)
VHONM021
Two mixes one from Noel and the other from a German geezer who goes by the name of Ian Pooley, any cop then – what do you think…
TONY THOMAS Tight Rope 12"
(Soma)
VSOMA123
Tony Thomas returns to Soma with a fantastic three tracker of funky tribal house music. Tony is on a roll right now and you will most likely find one of his first rate recordings in the boxes of a cross section of DJ’s. Currently house, techno and progressive spinners love his tribal grooves.
MATTI OILING Cyclops Dance 12"
(City Rockers)
VROCKERS22
If there ever was a 'grand old drummer' in Finnish jazz it must be Matti Oiling, who has just celebrated 40 years in the business both as a musician and an educator. Matti began playing the drums at the age of twelve. In 1969 he founded his first group which is still going strong to this day. Along the route the personnel have gone through some changes and the name has been transformed (from Happy Jazz Band to Oiling Boiling and later on to Oiling Boiling Rhythm & Blues Band) but the main focus has always remained the same: jazz with crazy beats and grooves. Hungry for global rhythms, Oiling studied Latin-American styles in Brazil in the mid 70's and second line beats in New Orleans. This lead to him setting up a drumming school, writing books on the subject and later founding a samba school in Helsinki 'Cyclops Dance' is the origional electro sound. This stunning masterpiece from 1977 was found by Helsinki's Lifesaver DJ's who immediately recognised its outrageous dancefloor appeal. Licensed to City Rockers from the mighty Sahko Recordings Imprint, the outrageously rare original appears alongside an excellent remix by Pepe Deluxe. City Rockers also present a special Deluxe edit by London's Nautiloids (making their vinyl debut). The original is also featured on the forthcoming 'Futurism 2' compilation. This is a devastating piece of music. Enjoy

PSYCHO RADIO In The Underground 12"
(Hooj Tunes)
VHOOJ125
80’s-tweaked punk funk from Italy is the order of the day here, with Psycho Radio’s In The Underground bringing spiky digital funk together with snaking electronic rhythms to provide the phat-ass peaktime sounds. As ever, the package comes on two discs, with the Original mix sitting on the A side of disc one in all its cool glory, while quirky Bristolian houser, A-J Scent turns in a smooth remix on the B, skilfully continuing the 80’s theme with aplomb.
PSYCHO RADIO In The Underground 12"
(Hooj Tunes)
VHOOJ125R
Disc two sees the tougher sounds displayed on the remix from Basics resident, Paul Woolford. Paul’s recent works under the guises of Bobby Peru, 10,000 BC (one half of with Yousef) and as an artist outright (recording for Subliminal) has not gone unnoticed and his twisted grooves and tough drums work perfectly with the sleazy vocals. Daniele Tignino’s heavy tribal workout on the B closes the package as strongly as it started.
KENNY HAWKES Dance For Me 12"
(Music For Freaks)
VMFF12026
Following on from Play The Game, which became one of the most played house records of the year so far, Kenny Hawkes again delights the world with his awesome new workout Dance For Me. After previously giving Louise Carver a helping hand Dance For Me features the sensual vocals of Kimra (from Atjazz’s Raise The Dead) and the sublime Marcel (The Path on JBO). Dance For Me is already causing a sensation on the cooler dance floors with Roger Sanchez, D’Julz, Doc Martin, Tom Middleton, Heather, Joshua, Ricky Morrison, Harri, Jon Marsh, Stuart Patterson, Colin Dale & Ralph Lawson wearing out their test pressings. This one also looks set to go off! Dance For Me is featured here in 3 different versions; the original vocal, a dub and a truly X-Rated Version. On the original, Marcel comes on like a perverted preacher man, beckoning you to move while Kimra harmonises over gut wrenching bass and tight funked up beats. On the flip, Dub For Me twists the vocal into submission and will have the spotters getting excited over the very tongue-in-cheek sample. The X-Rated version finishes up the package - an outtake of the original recording session where Marcel & Kimra let loose their inhibitions and get deep down and darn right dirty! Are Music for Freaks on fire this year or what?!!
BOZWELL & MYERS Ese Hombre Malditos 12"
(Procreation)
V12PR05
Following on from the success of previous singles by Inland Knights, Rhythm Plate and The Littlemen, Procreation returns with a Latino disco house killer! Bozzwell & Myers hail from the northern town of Sheffield and both have been heavily involved in the music and party scenes there for many years. Bozwell may be remembered best for fronting The All Seeing I on their tour and Jon Myers from the free party scene and residences at Remedy and The Arches. Ese Hombre Maladitos (this bad man) is a rolling disco house cut up with a Latin feel that features live keys & percussion while a low sine wave driving bass line compliments the sexy Spanish vocal. Come, Watch & Play is bass line driven deep house with tribal percussion and a catchy vocal hook... late night floor filler style. Finally D-Wreck finishes the show... a stomping full on disco cut with Chic style b-line and infectious vocal melody that’s definitely down with the ladies, and if there’s one true reason to buy music, it must be to impress the ladies….
SUPAFIX Jam Buttie EP 12"
(Earth Records)
VMUD16
Earth Records is the label run and owned by Parrot from the All Seeing I. Supafix is Ross Orton of the Fat Truckers and Winston Hazel (Afro Art). Together they rub up a mix of nasty bass, filthy noises and digital dancehall funk. A collision of raw syncopation custom made for dark sweaty dance floors and naughty parties. The real basement jaxx!!!
PHYSICS FEAT LOU LOU City Lights 12"
(Hysteria)
VHYS016T
Hailing from the Swedish City of Malmoe, Physics have recently become the name on many a house gourmets lips, due to their unique sound and interesting blend of house beats and deep jazzy grooves. Physics aim to please both the club visitor and the choosy listener by using live as well as programmed elements in order to convey the true vibes of what house is all about. This is the very foundation on which both their studio-produced and live-performed music are based. City Lights is a deep & sensuous house moment featuring the vocals of Lou Lou and will be featured on a lot of compilations during 2002 such as Bar de Lune on Beechwood. The Night Vision Mix on the flip is a mellower jazzed out affair for those more chilled moments. Physics have released several other notable tunes, of which the song ‘7-AM Sessions’ has been the most highlighted, making its way onto several compilations such as ‘Beach House 2’ (Hed Kandi) and ‘Klubb Jazz Vol. 3 (Slip N Slide).
MAAS & PAUL CARI 6AM 12"
(Shoreline)
VSH004
Producers Mass & Paul Cari have previously worked together, remixing world music artist Ravi Prasad and Idrissa Diop for the French label Mikeli music. Here they serve up an aptly entitled record if we’ve ever heard one! A beautiful melodic summer moment that has a Brazilian kind of samba groove running through the heart of it, featuring the vocal talents of Stevie Vee and Bugsy. Already having had an airing to great response by Sancho Panza at the Notting Hill Carnival, this is set to be one of the tunes to round off the season in Ibiza, and everywhere else for that matter... so come on Bleinheim, this ones for you! The B Side starts with the 6AM Dub by Gecko (aka G of Different Gear, one of the most exiting names in dance music) a great compliment to side A with a dirtier edge and a slightly tougher feel, although nicely retaining the intrinsic beauty of the original. Prelude rounds off the package with a mellow laid back feel. This is truly the sound of summer on vinyl. Play it loud. Look out for more quality deep house from Shoreline in the coming months!
FADERFLIPPERS Immaculate Miss 12"
(Optional Extras)
VOPTEX004
Here we have 3 diverse tracks that effortlessly cover several bases but always retain an ultimate focus on funk, depth and of course soul! Too Many Tears kicks the EP off in heartbreaking house mode. The song-like arrangement builds upon a boogie b-line before adding layers of aching vocal samples but perhaps the true magic lies in the relationship between the descending chords and soaring strings. Next up What I Want crosses shuffled disco drums & a big bumpy bass line with stuttered vocal loops and an arrangement that increasingly sounds like a DJ cutting the track in and out of the mix. To close the proceedings we have Angel Centre. This is a hallucinatory journey of a track that begins with circling string samples before fading in salsa snare drums and strange bass shapes. These build towards a timely drop whereupon a distinctly emotional chord progression arrives and confirms this tracks’ true soulful status. The previous single Don’t Fear the Funk was heavily supported by Ewan Pearson, Harvey, Chris Duckenfield, Frankie Valentine, Trevor Jackson, Rob Mello and has already been licensed to many compilations including Nuphonic’s Cap One, Dan Ghenacia & Ralph Lawson’s Kwality mix CD and a Fabric mix CD by Hippie ‘n’ Halo which is due to drop any week now. All this and the record is black too!
EERIK & ARVID Shimmer 12"
(Raw Fusion)
VRAF004
Eerik & Arvid (sometimes also known as Plej) are two young brothers from Gothenburg on the sunny west coast of Sweden. They’re a part of the new generation of Swedish producers like Swell Session, Ernestos & Quant that have established themselves as the future of Swedish underground music. With a love for deep twisted rhythms and inspired by producers like Recloose, Herbert and Isolée they’re taking electronic house theories to a new level. Their touch of jazzy Detroit sounds and melodious (but always freaky) house rhythms will not disappoint any purveyors of independent house music. Eerik & Arvid’s tracks have already received big support from Peter Krüder, Aril Brikha, Patrick Forge, Alan Brown, Nik Weston, Dom Servini, Eivind Olsvik and many more…

(ATM Records)
VHUB02-0071
Maki Takamiya bursts on to the R&B scene with this sensational world-wide debut release taken from her forthcoming album. It has been worked over by the matchless Fini Dolo team who have given it 2 excellent 4 x 4 house mixes as well as the West London trademark Broken Beat mix. She was quite the precocious one, starting classical ballet when she was 3 years old, studying music at 9 and going to Art College in Kyoto to study art and painting. At university her musician career start when she played with a Jazz, soul and gospel band. When she was 21 she bought a keyboard and sequencer and started writing music. In that time she discovered that she was singing a lot of songs in English but she actually couldn't speak the language so she decided to move to London to learn spoken English. She moved in '98 and her UK life began. She continued making music and playing gigs in clubs and at the same time she was studying at London Music College. After she graduated she met Mr. Kuma (producer) and made a demo tape in east London... the rest is history.
KEVIN FREEMAN Space Funk Theory EP 12"
(Haiku Recordings)
VHKU001
‘Kevin Freeman is un-doubtably one of the scenes most promising up and coming talents –watch this space!’ Martin Nixon (URB magazine). Having been a DJ and label manager for the past 8 years it’s only been in the past 15 months that Kevin started producing his own tracks. In that relatively short space of time his results have been very impressive. Late last year Kevin co-wrote, engineered and produced Gordon Kayes’ remix of Kosheen’s Catch for BMG / Arista - not bad for his first ever remix. Not long after he signed his first single, In The Groove to Low Pressings’ new imprint, ROOM 4. Pushed by Phat Phil Cooper’s plug promotions, In the groove has proven to be one of the biggest underground house tracks of the summer, not just in Ibiza but also across the globe. Kevin also has forthcoming singles with Wall Of Sound’s house imprint, Nu Camp, due for release in October as well as a vocal breakbeat epic titled One Love due for release on Eukabreaks in November. Kevin is also recording with Fabric and Kiss FM resident Dave Mothersole under the name Freesole. This first release on his own Haiku imprint is an excellent 4 tracker mixing elements of old skool, deep house, tech house and techno all on the one slab of vinyl.

You may know Cedric Brooks from the Soul Jazz Dynamite series. He was a serious sax player who left Jamaica for the States in the mid 60's, became heavily influenced by Sun Ra and went back to Jamaica to express his own vision of Ra's message, fusing rastafarian drumming with Afro beat, funk & Latin. This is a limited edition sampler for a forthcoming compilation of his own Light of Saba record label. All the originals go for big bucks and are impossible to find. The EP itself consists of a wonderful horn instrumental, dub and a roots vocal on the B side along with a DJ version. Also comes in a groovy sleeve.
ERIC RUG & DYNAMAX Universoul People 12"
(Maine Recordings)
VMAINE004
Erik Rug (Dirty Jesus / Paper Recordings & DaPhreePhunkateerz / Artefact) is back and challenges the crowd with this impeccable release. Erik has been DJing and producing records for the last 15 years and is known for his 360 Degree musical knowledge. After a producing hiatus he now returns with Universoul People and represents another patch in his label’s diverse & challenging musical work. The track is a collaboration with MC Dynamax (from the Zulu Nation) and the duo have worked together since ‘99 when Dynamax started MC’ing at Erik’s monthly Waxgroove parties in the famous Rex Club, Paris. The night was known for it’s great attraction to people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. Universoul People is definitely a ‘Waxgroove’ track and perfectly recaptures the atmosphere you encountered once you set foot in the club late on a Thursday night. Dynamax’s smooth spoken word on Universoul People highlights his versatility and ability to adapt to a wide array of different styles and beats, which perfectly matches with Erik’s soulful musical arrangements. This is real deep soulful house at it’s finest and comes equipped with a more tribal version on the flipside for the more pumping dancefloors!
JOESKI & DJ CHUS El Amor 2002 Mixes 12"
(NRK Sound Division)
VNRK071
West London's Peace Division have re-worked this classic Latin houser, dropping some tribal-esque beats, 5am effects and a hypnotic cut up of the Spanish vocal. The flip is equally essential dance floor material with UK stalwarts Terry Farley and Chris Bangs tweaking the original into a deep, acid-tinged builder, perfect with some great percussion and acid house touches.
GROOVE CYCLONE Judgement 12"
(Maelstrom)
VMAELT021
Harry Diamond & David Panell (also on Nukleuz) are Groove Cyclone and on Judgement their first release for Maelstrom they show they mean business. The Original Mix is a huge slice of hard tech pie that starts off in a breaks style but swiftly moves into a slamming 4/4 tech groove with flying tribal drums and a mashed up acid build and drop. Phew! The Ca-Lo Remix is a darker interpretation of the flip that takes the groove deeper and adds a sub-bass break and a two killer riffs, one bass and one keys, that play off each other perfectly.

MAURICE FULTON My Gigolo 12"
(Transfusion)
VTF032
The vocal version of Maurice Fulton’s My Gigolo is released for the very first time on 12inch, originally included on the critically acclaimed Why Put Me Through It? (TFCD01) album that was voted Jockey Slut ‘album of the month’. It has also been licensed to the trendy London Electric Stew (ES002CD) double CD compilation and the original 12inch dub version is also featured on the forthcoming Saturday Night, Sunday Morning (CHAIR002CD) compilation by Manchester’s Electric Chair crew. My Gigolo is a mid-tempo sleaze funk monster that sounds very now... and talking of now, remixers and producers of the moment Chicken Lips add their previously unreleased (in any format) Chicken Lips Dub to the package with another killer disco electro workout.

It just gets better this 12" features Terrence Parker's Spirit of Detroit mix (on vinyl for the first time) that utilises a Martin Luther King speech over the Strings instrumental, as found on Roger Sanchez’s wicked Release Yourself (RELCOMP01) mix CD. DJ D PRESENTS SPORTIN LIFE Can you Dig It 12"
(Sessions)
VSES018
DJD’s Sportin’ Life project delivers his third release on Session and is, as always, a quality piece of dance floor friendly house music. Dominic & Tom have come up trumps again with the A side’s Can You Groove It mix doing exactly what it says - grooving sublimely with a rumbling bassline, funky keyboard stabs, pumping drums and FX aplenty. The Can You Dub It mix as you would expect is a deep dub version with a truncated bassline and even crazier FX... definitely a late night monster! And for those who prefer a vocal, the Original mix is a surefire winner too, super funky!!!
HEIDELBERG PROJECT Same Old Shit Different Day 12"
(Dis House)
VDIS002
Famed electro producer Keith Tucker (Aux 88 / Puzzlebox etc.) returns with another original vocal house production in the shape of Same Old Shit Different Day on D.I.S. House Records. Featuring the vocal Talents of Mike Jeffers, the lyrics tell the story of a day dodging bullets in Detroit emphasised by some seriously punchy drums, ocean deep b-line & classy chords mixed by Keith himself. As on the first release Strand takes on the remix duties for the B-side and delivers the best dub we’ve heard in a long time! The vocals are cut up and dropped over a pristinely produced chunky funky groove like no other. Unique and great!
